September 27 and 28th, Autumn Fest

St. Croix Falls, WI

The community of St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin, is pulling together for an Autumn celebration like no other.  Autumn Fest, September 27 and 28, 2008 is a celebration of the arts, nature, and the flavor of the St. Croix Falls area. The scenic river, filled with vibrant colors, will be a prominent back drop for a two day event in historic downtown St. Croix Falls, dreamt up by area residents.

The mission of the Autumn Fest is, “To create a festival that is an authentic expression of community, seeking to capture the unique sense of place and creative spirit of the region, and exploring self-sufficient and sustainable models of community development and enhancement.”

Saturday, September 27 begins at 9:00 a.m. with children’s events, including an art exhibit at the National Park Service Visitors Center.  Meanwhile, just a few feet down the river walk, a juried arts and crafts fair and several community information booths will be available at the Gaylord Nelson Parkway and the Overlook Deck areas throughout the day.  Tribal Spirits of the Sun will lead a community drum circle at 10:00 a.m.

Crowds will be eager to meet St. Croix Falls native and U.S. Olympic Rower, Megan Kalmoe, freshly home from China, as she takes the stage at 1 p.m.  The program will include a presentation to Kalmoe by Mayor Darrell Anderson, an unveiling of The River Spirit plaque, and cake cutting in honor of St. Croix Falls’s--170 years since the town’s settlement, 120 years as an incorporated Village, and 50 years as a City.

Look forward to informative workshops all afternoon at the National Parks Service, the locally grown Corn Feed Fest starting at 1:00 p.m., and free outdoor music nearly all day long!

At 4:00 p.m. the public is invited to the St. Croix Falls Public Library Harvest Dance fundraiser.  Held in the parking lot of the future site for the new library, a tent will serve as a barn as folks eat, dance and bid on auction items.

And those lucky enough to get tickets to Tim Sparks & Michael Young in concert at Festival Theatre will have the perfect end to a splendid day.

The celebration continues Sunday with a Community Luncheon with locally produced food from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Overlook Deck.

It’s not too late for artisans to be a part of this fun-filled weekend.  Juried art and craft fair registration forms can be downloaded from the St. Croix Falls Chamber of Commerce website: www.scfwi.com, where you can also find a list of St. Croix Falls Autumn Fest activities.
